  Millifluidics for biology

  Millifluidic devices of molded PDMS allows to impose different channel geometries and thus to fine-tune the system hydrodynamical properties. The preparation is simple, fast and reproducible. At Jean Perrin, we use this technique to study the impact of physical parameters on the development of bacterial biofilms.

  Lightsheet fluorescence microscopy

  With this microscopy technique, thin slices of the sample are illuminated perpendicularly to the direction of observation. It enables a high data thoughput and reduces the photodamage and stress induced on a living sample. At Jean Perrin, we combine lightsheet microscopy with calcium imaging to monitor the activity of tens of thousands of neurons in the zebrafish brain.

  Micromachining has become a serious alternative to soft photolithography to achieve surfaces with a controlled topography at micrometric scales.
