Maxime Deforet just joined the Jean Perrin Laboratory, in the group “Micro-organisms biophysics”.

He is interested in the emergence of collective behaviors in biological systems, in particular collective motility. During his PhD with Pascal Silberzan at the Institut Curie, he studied the collective motions of epithelial cells spatially constrained. He did his postdoc with Joao B. Xavier at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He focused on the bacterium Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, its single cell motility and its collective motility when a colony is grown on an agar gel. This system was used as a model for the study of the evolution of population expansion.

His projects at LJP involve physics of multi-cellular organisation within colonies and evolution of biofilms grown in microfluidic chambers.
