Into the light: from Organic Optoelectronics to Medical Diagnostics

Résumé

What do optoelectronics and medical diagnostics have in common? Applications of photonics
are ubiquitous. Included are all areas from everyday life to the most advanced science, e.g.
light detection, telecommunications, information processing, lighting, metrology, spectroscopy, holography, medicine (surgery, vision correction, endoscopy, health monitoring).

A general summary of my research will be presented with focus on non-linear spectroscopy
and optoelectronics applied to new materials for Telecom applications and Neuroscience
(nonlinear SHG imaging), bio-photonics (Optical and Raman Tweezers) and time-resolved
Raman spectroscopy for medical diagnostics.

Actually, I hold a post-doctoral position at the University of Paris-Sud in the Group of
Analytical Chemistry, GCAPs, EA4041 in the Faculty of Pharmacy. My research project
focuses on the qualitative and quantitative micro-Raman characterization of dry skin diseases:
- ex vivo: set-up of new spectral descriptors of normal and dry skin/evaluation of the effect of
different formulations of moisturizers on hydration, skin barrier and secondary protein
structure of the Stratum Corneum.
- in vivo: study of the hydration, skin barrier and the secondary structure of proteins directly
on volunteers by means of a new developed Raman probe.
